Cinematography - Task 4

CITIZEN KANE  1941 ‧ Drama/Mystery

In the first scene there are various point of views shot to establish the setting. In fact, there are many types of shots involved, wether its an extreme close-up or an establishing shot. There wasn't many camera movements such as pan shots, this is due to the fact back then they relayed on a stand or tripod equipments. the extreme close-up used generates enigma codes to the viewer simply because the audience are not sure whats going on. On the other hand the establishing shot shows everything including the setting as said before. There wasn't any sense of identification due to the lack of camera movement that engages the audience.

Synergy is always present when sound and editing comes with cinematography. The sounds in this scenes didn't creat tension and didnt raise many questions. however, the non-diegetic sound interwind with the image, this is called parallel sound. Finally they used the effect of transitions between clips very effectively and it engaged the viewer.
